Description

What is Age Ayurveda Nutrijam ?

Nutrijam is a preparation of Amla (Avaleha1), inspired completely by Chyawanprash. Nutrijam was conceived to provide a product with identical properties to Chyawanprash for the European market. It was launched in 2009 in Europe. Since the consistency of Avaleha’s is similar to that of jams, it was called “Nutrijam”, more-over to inspire Europeans to consume it in that manner by maybe applying to the toast for breakfast.

Chyawanprash is the most popular of all Ayurvedic preparations not just in India but worldwide. According to the ancient text, the preparation was conceived by the learned sage Chyawan Rishi, and hence named after him as “Chyawanprash”.

How and where are it’s ingredients cultivated ?

Amla (Emblica officinalis) also known as the Indian Gooseberry is the main ingredient in Age Ayurveda Nutrijam (Chyawanprash), and the Amla tree is native to North India, specifically to the Pratapgarh and Prayagraj regions of Uttar Pradesh. Today due to increase in demand of the fruit of Amla, other regions of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are also cultivating the Amla tree. We at Age Ayurveda are located in the epicentre of the Prayagraj belt.

It is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 30 to 40 feet has a whitish brown soft bark not very thick and also not very strong. It would take you five years for the tree to grow and produce fruits if germinated by seeds. The leaves are similar to that of tamarind tree, and the fruit is pulpy with small seed in the middle. We recommend using natural manure for this tree. Spacing of 15 feet is sufficient if you plan an orchard, however we at Prayagraj have access to the fruit straight from the forest, in its pure and organic form. This exercise has been done under supervision for decades by the Govt agencies, primarily to ensure the sustenance of the forest and provide livelihood to those dependent on it.

The other ingredients are as follows: Triphala (Terminalia chelubaTerminalia belericaEmblica officinalis), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), Haridra (Curcuma longa), Chandan (Santalum album), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Yasthimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Pippli (Piper longum), Lavang  (Syzygium aromaticum), Mustak (Cyperus racemosus), Dalchini (Cinnamomum cassia), Choti Elaichi (Elletaria cardamomum), Nagkesar (Mesua ferrea), Ghrit, Sugar, Kesar (Crocus sativus).

What are the medicinal uses of Nutrijam (Chyawanprash) ?

Nutrijam (Chyawanprash) is a rejuvenative rasayana2 prepared by draining the extracts of 18 other herbs in a kadha before blending in a bed of Amla with fudge-like consistency. The final preparation is similar to a jam. This is prepared as described in the ancient text “Ayurved Sar Sangrah3” for the purpose of restoring “Ojas4” and thereby supporting the natural “Agni5” of the body to strengthen Immunity.

The key ingredient Amla is known to have 20 to 30 times the vitamin C than an orange, and remains unchanged even when its processed. It assimilates easily in the body and provides many health benefits from the young to the old. It is a perfect Nutritive Jam for the entire family. Chyawanprash balances all the three doshas Vatta Pitta and Kapha, the basis of human wellness according to Ayurveda.

The learned sage, Maharshi “Charaka” has dedicated a verse to elaborate the merits of consuming Chyawanprash, in Charak Samhita:

This translates that it is a  rasayana, beneficial in cough, asthma and related respiratory symptoms. It provides nourishment to degenerative tissues, promotes vigour and vitality and is anti-ageing. As a tonic it supports immunity and memory. It is also good for improving digestion, stamina and general health.

Covid19 pandaemic, that started with a lockdown called by the Govt of India from 23 March 2020, put the entire country worried without any known cure or vaccine. The only advisory given by the AYUSH ministry was that all citizens should take 1tsf of Chyawanprash every-day to strengthens immunity. The Govt reliance came from a collective advisory of the top 17 Vaidyas of the country, who recommended Chyawanprash as the most potent formulation for the immune system.

{2.} Science of lengthening life span.

{3.} Authoritative ayurvedic book published by Baidyanath.

{4.} Ojas is responsible for the body’s immunity and strength. It is destroyed by anger, over-exertion, malnutrition and lack of food.

{5.} Agni is the fiery metabolic energy of digestion, allows assimilation of food while ridding the body of waste and toxins, and transforms dense physical matter into subtle forms of energy the body needs.  Jathar-agni determines the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Bhuta-agni determines the production of bile in the liver. Kloma-agni determines the production of sugar-digesting pancreati enzymes and so forth.
